National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
Background
Located at Center X in the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, the UCLA NBPTS Project has been supporting teachers pursuing National Board Certification since 1997.
Candidate Support
The UCLA NBPTS Project begins with an intensive 4-Day Summer Institute
during which candidates explore the National Board's Five Core Propositions, deconstruct the NB Standards, work to develop and align their writing with the style of writing expected by the National Board, and begin planning their year as NB Candidates. Throughout the school year, the UCLA NBPTS Project's Monthly Support Academy meets on the second Saturday of each month. Each meeting begins with a whole group session during which all certificate area candidates convene for an hour. During the next two hours, candidates meet in small groups by certificate area. The optional afternoon sessions include a Research Roundtable, a writing workshop, and a technology preparation lab.
